Condition

After January, 1991, an adjustment eccentric was introduced in place of the ball on the gearshift lever.

Service

After adjustment of the shift mechanism has been performed, dimension a is to be checked with 1st gear engaged.

Shift linkage, adjusting

^ place shift lever in neutral position





^ loosen shift rod clamp (arrow)

Note

The selector lever must move easily on the shaft.

^ remove gear sliift knob and boot





^ install gear shift gauge, 3104

^ with transmission in neutral, align shift rod with selector lever and tighten shift rod clamp

^ engage 1st gear

Note

To check or adjust the shift mechanism, overcome the free play in the shift mechanism by pressing the gearshift lever lightly towards the left hand side.





^ lightly press shift lever to left

^ use feeler gage to measure dimension a
^ dimension a = 1.0 - 1.5 mm

^ if adjustment is required, loosen screw B

^ rotate eccentric A eccentric until dimension a is correct
^ dimension a = 1.0 - 1.5 mm

^ tighten screw B


Note

After installing a gearbox and/or gearshift lever/gearshift rod, the shift mechanism must be adjusted as described above.





Removing eccentric

^ loosen screw B and carefully lift lever eccentric A off lower part of gearshift lever

Note

Adjustment eccentric A, Part No. 191 711 073 A, may be replaced separately





Installing eccentric

^ push eccentric on to gearshift lever and engage it into lower part of lever

^ after adjustment of shift mechanism tighten screw B

When repairing gearshift mechanism after

the following new parts are used
^ gearshift lever - Part No. 191 711 116 C
^ adjusting eccentric - Part No. 191 711 073 A
