Condition
The Airbag Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) remains on after installation of the superseded Airbag control module

Service
^ In order to code the Airbag Control Module, your Dealer number must be present in the 1551 Scan tool.
- Connect the VAG 1551 Scan Tool per instructions on page 01-5 of the Repair Manual Golf III, GTI, Jetta III, Cabrio Body-Exterior Body Interior.
Display will appear as shown except, Operating modes 1 and 2 are displayed alternately.
- Input mode 4 then push Q button.
Display will appear as shown.
- Push HELP button for instructions for entering Dealership number or:
- Enter 1 to display Dealer code.
- Enter 2 to delete Dealer code.
- Enter 3 to input Dealer code.
- Follow instructions listed on page 01-6 to display the part number of the Airbag Control Module.
^ Display will appear as shown.
- Follow procedures outlined in Technical Bulletin 01-94-01 dated Feb. 28, 1994 to code ECM.
^ After input of Airbag control module identification, the display will appear as shown.
After this procedure it is necessary to erase all DTC's that might be stored in memory, (basic setting of the control module) as outlined on page 01-21 of Technical Bulletin 01-94-01 dated Feb. 28, 1994.
