Model(s): All vehicles with 010 transmission
Supercedes Bulletin 91-03, Dated May 31, 1991


Condition

Drive plate Part No. 068 105 323 is no longer available. The part number now has a multiple supersession listed on the Parts National File.

Install new drive plate, Part No. 053 105 323 E, dealers must order all parts separately.





CAUTION

Before removing transmission, set engine to TDC. This ensures alignment of the drive plate to the transmission.


^ remove transmission, refer to Group 37 of the Repair Manual Microfiche

^ remove drive plate bolts, shims, and old drive plate, discard shims and drive plate

^ install 4.0 mm shim (2), Part No. 053 105 301A

^ install drive plate, Part No. 053 105 323E, 1 mm shim (1), Part No. 056 105 303 and old drive plate mounting bolts
^ Torque = 30 N-m (22 ft.lb.) + 1/4 turn

Note

The additional 1/4 (90~) turn may be done in more than one step.





^ Measure distance (a) from drive plate to engine
^ a = 31.3 +/- 0.7 mm.

^ remove old drive plate bolts

^ add or remove shims to (2) in order to achieve correct distance

^ install new drive plate bolts
^ Torque = 30 N-m (22 ft.lb.) + 1/4 turn

Note

The additional 1/4 (90~) turn may be done in more than one step.

Note

Only one 1.0 mm shim (1), Part No. 056 105 303, must be used between drive plate and mounting bolts.


Note

The distance measurement, (a) must be achieved by use of the 4.0 mm shim, Part No. 053 105 301A and/or the 1.0 mm shim, Part No. 056 105 303 for item (2).
^ a = 31.3 +/- 0.7 mm.

^ install transmission, refer to Group 37 of Repair Manual Microfiche

Note

The torque converter bolts, Part No. 087 323 699, must be secured with locking compound, Part No. D 000 600.

^ install torque converter bolts
^ Torque = 35 N-m (26 ft.lb.)

^ install all other components in reverse order of removal and note the following:
^ install all engine/transmission mounting bolts first
^ adjust accelerator cable when installing transmission, refer to Group 37 of the Repair Manual Microfiche

Note

With improved drive plate installed, it is not necessary to install the crankshaft with cross drilled bores or piston rods with inline bores on vehicles produced before: 4/88 VIN 16 JW 704 539
