Cold Start Injector: Testing and Inspection
Component Locations:
1. With the ignition "OFF", remove the electrical connector at the cold start valve.
2. With a suitable volt/ohm meter, measure the resistance between the two terminals of the cold start valve.
^ The correct measurement should be approx. 8 to 13 ohms.
If the correct measurement is not obtained replace the cold start valve.
If the correct measurement is obtained continue.
3. Reconnect the electrical connector to the cold start valve.
Power Stage Location:
4. Disconnect the harness connector from the power output stage at the coil.
VW Special Tool #1490:
5. Disconnect the coolant temperature sensor connector.
6. Connect a 15K ohm resistance block (VW 1490) or equivalent to the coolant temperature sensor harness connector. This will simulate a cold engine condition.
7. Remove the cold start injector and hold it in a fuel safe measuring container.
8. Activate the starter.
^ The cold start valve must spray in pulses for approx. 8 seconds in a uniform cone pattern.
9. Dry off the injector nozzle.
10. Observe the nozzle for one minute.
^ No drops may fall from the nozzle within one minute and the nozzle must remain dry.
If the correct results are not obtained, replace the cold start valve.
