Date: Feb. 28, 1991
Subject:
Transmission Jumps Out of Gear
Model(s):
Passat 1990, 1991 m.y. (5 Spd. Transmission)
Condition:
The inner rubber boot of the gear shift lever assembly may dislodge, causing a pulling effect on the gear shift lever. This pulling effect may cause the gear shift lever to go out of gear when the vehicle passes over bumps on road surfaces.
Service Solution:
Check for correct position of the neck on rubber cover, Part No. 357 863 209A (Plus color code).
The top neck (1) of the rubber cover must be positioned on the upper collar (2) of the guide for the selector lever, Part No. 357 711 055A, which is below the pressure spring (3), Part No. 431 711 197.
If necessary, position the rubber cover (1) over the upper collar of the guide for the selector lever (2) and secure (1) with a clamp, Part No. N 024 509.2
