B. Checking For Proper Connector Terminals

B. Knock Sensor (KS), EGR Temperature

Sensor and Throttle Position Sensor (TPS),* check for proper connector terminals (Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) applies to Passat with automatic transmission only)





To ensure proper electrical connections as well as the latest production level, both knock sensor (KS) and EGR temperature sensor connector terminals must be gold-plated. To check, follow this procedure:

- Disconnect electrical connections from knock sensors (KS) 1 and 2, EGR temperature sensor and throttle position sensor (TPS). If connector terminals are tin-plated, replace the respective component with:

Harness Terminals
Check harness terminals if NOT gold-plated replace as follows: *
- Pull back protective boot from receptacle plug.
- Push wire connector out of plug, one at a time, using tool from tool kit 000 097 013 or similar.





- Cut terminal, strip wire and crimp gold-plated terminal, Part No. N 903 352 07 to wire, using crimping tool from tool kit No. 000 097 013.
- Reinsert terminal into housing and proceed to next wire.
- After all wires have been modified, pull boot over receptacle plug and connect.
