Ignition (Hall) Control Unit (Federal Only)


NOTE: The ignition control unit should only be tested if the engine does not start and there is no spark at the spark plugs.
To further assist you during testing, use the wiring diagrams.

CAUTION: Always turn ignition "OFF" when connecting or disconnecting Control unit harness connectors.
Be sure to check the integrity of the wires, connectors, battery terminals and fuses before replacing an expensive component.

TEST REQUIREMENTS

1. The ignition coil must be in good working order. If needed, test coil first. See Powertrain Management/Ignition System/Ignition Coil/Testing and Inspection/Procedures. Testing and Inspection
2. The hall effect sender must be in good working order. If needed, test sender. Hall Effect Sensor
3. Electrical check of the Digifant system wiring must be OK.

TEST PROCEDURE

1. Turn ignition "OFF".
2. Connect a LED test light between coil terminals 1 (-) and 15 (+).
3. Briefly operate starter:

^ LED test light must flicker

If not, replace Digifant control unit.
