Subject: 1992 VOLKSWAGEN WARRANTY COVERAGE ANNOUNCEMENT
^ 2/24 "BUMPER-TO-BUMPER" LIMITED NEW VEHICLE WARRANTY
^ 5/50 LIMITED POWERTRAIN WARRANTY
^ FEDERAL/CALIFORNIA EMISSION WARRANTY

Volkswagen United States, Inc. is pleased to announce the following 1992 model year Warranty coverages.

^ The 1992 Volkswagen "Bumper-to-Bumper" Limited New Vehicle Warranty Coverage is 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

^ For 1992 model year vehicles, service adjustments not usually associated with the replacement of parts are not covered after the first 12 months or 12,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

^ Wear and tear items such as manual transmission clutch friction material and wiper blade inserts will be covered for the first 12 months or 12,000 miles for 1992 model year vehicles.

^ The repair and/or replacement of tires is excluded for 1992 model Volkswagen vehicles. Tires are separately warranted by the respective tire manufacturers. The Magnuson-Moss Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act of 1975 and regulations issued pursuant to the Act, require that an appropriate tire warranty pamphlet be placed in every new vehicle prior to sale. Volkswagen Products will have the appropriate tire warranty brochure placed in the vehicles at our Port locations. To assist you in obtaining sufficient quantities of tire warranty pamphlets for vehicles that may not have one upon delivery, the enclosed list of tire manufacturers, phone numbers and addresses is being provided. This list also appears in the October 1991 edition of the Warranty Policies and Procedures Manual.

^ As of the 1992 model year, halogen, instrument panel, and all other light bulbs are covered for 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever occurs first.

^ Brake friction material which wears beyond the published minimum wear limit within the New Vehicle Warranty period will be covered under the terms of the New Vehicle Warranty for 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever occurs first, if this wear results from a defect in material and/or workmanship.

^ The 1992 Limited Powertrain Warranty coverage will remain at 5 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first. Component coverage is identical to the 1991 Model Year coverage.

^ The 1992 Federal Emission Warranties are identical to the 1991 warranties.

The Federal Emission Control System Warranty is 5 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first. A list of components covered by this warranty is contained in the latest Warranty Policies and Procedures Manual.

The Federal Emission Performance Warranty applies only in states that maintain an EPA approved inspection and maintenance program. The warranty applies to any component that causes a covered vehicle to fail an EPA approved state inspection and maintenance test within 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever occurs first. If the vehicle has been in use for more than 2 years/24,000 miles but less than 5 years/50,000 miles, the Federal Emission Performance Warranty will cover only those failures resulting from malfunctioning components which have been installed in or on the vehicle for the sole or primary purpose of reducing vehicle emissions and that were not in general use prior to model year 1968. This policy is the same as it was for the 1991 model year. Refer to the latest Warranty Policies and Procedures Manual or an applicable Owners Warranty Booklet for a list of specific components and coverages.

^ The California Emission Control System Warranty and Performance Warranty coverage remains unchanged for 1992 at 3 years or 50,000 miles, whichever occurs first. California has enacted a law requiring that vehicle manufacturers cover certain emission system components for 7 years or 70,000 miles. A list of these specific components is shown below:

Air Flow Sensor Assembly Air Intake Sensor (Air Flow Sensor) Catalyst (Catalytic Converter) EGR Valve Exhaust Manifold Exhaust Pipe Fuel Distributor

Fuel Injection Control Unit (Engine Management Control Module) Fuel Tank G-Charger (Supercharger) Ignition Distributor Intake Manifold Intercooler (Charge Air Cooler) Throttle Valve Housing

The October 1991 edition of the Volkswagen Warranty Policies and Procedures Manual and the Warranty Booklet will reflect these changes.
