Condition
As of 1992 m.y. Heidelberg VIII and SC 88 C cassette radios installed in production or in the port have a new ignition key on/off feature.
All vehicles with the exception of the Vanagon have been equipped with this circuit (brown/red wire connected to radio power plug cavity number 4) since 1991 m.y. with product update (7/90 production).
Service
Radios will NOT be switched on/off with ignition power, rather the power function is controlled by the chime (SU) circuit of the ignition switch. The power is enabled by inserting the key.
Heidelberg VIII Radio Cassette
The radio power on/off function is controlled internally in the radio by a microprocessor.
^ radio will switch off when ignition key is removed
^ radio anti-theft blinking LED will activate after removal of the ignition key
SC 88 C Radio Cassette
The radio power on/off function is controlled internally in the radio by a switching transistor.
^ radio will switch off when ignition key is removed
^ radio anti-theft blinking LED will activate after removal of the ignition key
