Condition

Engine loses power intermittently and engine check light comes on. On-Board Diagnostics shows knock sensor DTC. Electrical connections on engine control module and knock sensor are not correct.

Service

- check the following electrical connections and if necessary make corrections:
^ shielded wire (black) must be connected to terminal 8 of connector for engine control module (J 169) and to terminal T3g/3 of connector for knock sensor (G 61)

^ white wire must be connected to terminal 29 of connector for engine control module (J 169) and to terminal T3g/1 of connector for knock sensor (G 61)

^ yellow wire must be connected to terminal 27 of connector for engine control module (J 169) and to terminal T3g/2 of connector for knock sensor (G 61)

Note:
Wiring diagram 91-21 for GTI 8V (California only), contains an error on page 4 . This same error appears in Wiring Diagram Book "Golf GTI, Jetta, 1991" on page 110. A new, corrected wiring diagram will be issued shortly. Also see Technical Bulletin 28-92-05 for additional information regarding California cars.
