Condition

Key turns in door lock but the central locking does not operate with ambient temperatures below freezing. (32° F or 0° C)

Production

Theft deterrent tube introduced in production on:

8/90 VIN 1G MM 014 296

Tube removed from production on:

12/91 VIN 1G NM 034 464

Service

The theft deterrent rubber tube installed on the central locking actuators fill with water and freeze. Remove the rubber tube from the top of all four door actuators and reassemble doors.

Front doors





^ open front door after vehicle has warmed and allowed ice to melt

^ remove access plug below door latch and disconnect electrical connector
electrical connector on Master actuator only

CAUTION
Always use a sharp knife to cut the rubber tube. DO NOT damage the rubber bellows of the actuator when cutting the rubber tube.

^ cut along full length of rubber tube A on top actuator with a sharp knife or razor knife





^ remove rubber tube A from actuator B with needle nose pliers and discard

^ reconnect electrical plug to actuator

^ install access plug on door

^ repeat procedure for passenger side door

Rear Doors

^ remove rear door trim panels and plastic
moisture barriers from doors

^ refer to Group 70 Service Microfiche for specific information

CAUTION
Always use a sharp knife to cut the rubber tube. DO NOT damage the rubber. DO NOT damage the rubber bellows of the actuator when cutting the rubber tube.





^ cut rubber tubes A from top of actuators B, remove and discard

^ install plastic moisture barriers and door panels
