Windshield Does Not Clear In DEFROST Mode






1 - Fresh air blower switch
2 - "Norm" A/C button
3 - Fresh air/recirculation flap
4 - Fresh air intake
5 - Fresh air/recirculation vacuum servo
6 - Fresh air blower
7 - Mode (central) flap
8 - Footwell/defrost flap
9 - Defroster vents
10 - Heater core
11 - Air blend (temperature) flap


Ambient temperature must be above 7°C (45°F)

- check A/C operation
- must cool with full output

- test operation of fresh air blower 6
- must operate on all four speeds

- check operation of temperature control knob
- air blend (temperature) flap 11 must audibly contact stop when knob is moved to full cold

If NO
- adjust air blend (temperature) flap control-cable

- adjust fresh air blower switch 1 to position "3"
- adjust temperature control knob to full hot
- adjust air flow distribution knob to DEFROST position
- switch A/C ON by pressing "Norm" A/C button 2
- cool air flows through heater core 10
- heater core inlet/outlet pipes must be warm

If NO
- check thermostat

- luke-warm air must flow from defroster vents 9

If NO
- adjust mode (central) flap control cable, Service and Repair

- fresh air/recirculation vacuum servo 5 must be extended (no vacuum applied)
- fresh air/recirculation flap 3 and fresh air intake (arrow 4) must be open

If NO
- check vacuum hose layout and connections, Vacuum and Vapor Hose Diagrams
- check fresh air/recirculation flap two-way valve, N63 according to wiring diagram
- check fresh air blower switch E9, 1
