Fuel Tank Removal and Installation



FUEL TANK, REPLACING, DISASSEMBLING AND ASSEMBLING

NOTE: Observe safety precautions and rules, of cleanliness.





- Hose connections are secured with either screw or spring type clips
- Always replace spring pups with screw type,
1 Fuel filler cap
2 Retaining ring

3 Splash shield
4 supply from pump reservoir

5 Return from pump reservoir
6 Collar nut
- remove and install using tool 3218
7 Fuel gauge sending unit
- for installed position, See Fig. 1 in "Fuel Pump Reservoir, Replacing, Disassembling/Assembling". Service and Repair
8 Connector
9 Fuel pump
10 Connector
11 Strainer
- remove straight, do. not twist or turn; the pump locking knob will break off
12 Sealing ring
- coat with fuel before assembling
13 Reservoir

14 Vent hose

15 Fuel tank
- when removing, Support using VAG 1383 engine and transmission jack
16 Fuel tank mounting straps
17 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
18 Vent valve

- closed when lever is in rest position
- open when lever is pressed
19 10 Nm (7 ft lb)
20 Ground connection
21 Vent line (to carbon canister)

22 O-ring
- replace if damaged
23 Gravity valve
- to remove, unclip valve and pull upwards out of the filter neck
- check for flow:
valve vertical open
angled greater than 45° = closed°
