Using Scan Tool (ST) - VAG 1551
Scan Tool VAG 1551 connecting and selecting functions
Caution! On vehicles with ABS/EDL up to chassis No. 31.L-.213 345 the central connector at the ABS/EDL control module must be unplugged before connecting VAG 1551 and selecting the address code "02", Transmission Electronics. The ABS/EDL control module has been modified from chassis No. 31.L-.213 345.
Test conditions:
^ Vehicle voltage supply OK.
^ Fuses l4 and 21 0K.
^ Selector lever in position "N" and parking brake applied.
^ Pry off cover for selector mechanism.
^ Check Ground (GND) connections for transmission:
^ Check GND connections for corrosion and poor contact, repair if necessary.
^ GND connecting point is located on left next to relay plate.
^ Check battery GND strap, and GND strap between battery and transmission.
Scan Tool V.A.G. 1551 And DLC Connectors:
1. With ignition switched off, connect Scan Tool with diagnosis cable VAG 1551/i to the Data Link Connectors (DLCs):
^ Black connector to black DLC -1-
^ White connector to white DLC -2-
^ The blue connector is not required.
Note: Additional operating instructions can be retrieved by pressing the HELP button of VAG 1551.
The --> button is used for advancing within the program sequence.
2. Switch on ignition.
3. Switch on printer with the Print button (indicator lamp in button lights up).
4. Press button 1 for "Rapid data transfer mode.

5. Press buttons 0 and 2. (The address word "Transmission electronics" is entered with 02).

6. Confirm entry with Q button.

7. The control module identification, the coding and the dealership number of the VAG 1551 are displayed:
^ Control module identification 095 927 731 F Digimat 0701
^ Coding 127 is not required at present.
^ WSC 131071 dealership number of the VAG 1551 with which the last coding was performed.
8. Press the HELP button, a list of possible causes of malfunctions is printed out.
9. After eliminating the possible causes of malfunctions, again enter the address code "02" for "Transmission electronics" and confirm.
^ Readout in display:
Control module does not answer!
Note: If "Control module does not answer!" appears:
^ Check wiring connections of DLC's.
^ See Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) chart, under DTC code 65535, control module faulty!
10. Press --> button.
^ Readout in display:
Rapid data transfer HELP
Select function XX
11. After the HELP button is pressed, a list of the possible functions is printed out.
