Removal



Removing
Remove the engine from the front together with the transmission.

CAUTION: Before disconnecting the battery get radio code for vehicles equipped with anti-theft radio

NOTE: Al/tie wraps that you loosen 4or remove to remove the engine must be replaced or reinstalled in the same place when the engine is in stalled.

- Switch ignition off.

- Disconnect battery ground strap.

- Removing intake air hose and air cleaner housing.

- Remove cover for front exhaust pipe if installed.

- Removing ribbed belt refer to "Ribbed Belt, Removing and Installing". Service and Repair

- Remove spark plug connectors with ignition cables.





- Remove ignition wire guides -1- and -2-.

- Remove cover for intake manifold upper section -3-.

- Disconnect accelerator cable at throttle valve housing and support bracket (do not remove locating clip at support bracket).

- Loosen power steering reservoir.

- Unbolt power steering hydraulic line retainers from engine and transmission mounts.

- Remove balance weight from assembly carrier.

- Disconnect drive shafts and hang up with wire.

- Disconnect front exhaust pipe from exhaust manifold.

- Remove power steering pump and lay aside: leave hoses attached.

- Drain coolant.

- Remove lock carrier with attachments Repair Group 5O, Body Exterior.

- Disconnect 42-pin connector (near ignition coil).

- Disconnect all wiring from transmission, generator and starter and move clear.

- Disconnect all coolant1 vacuum and breather hoses from engine.

- Disconnect 4-pin connector to Heated Oxygen Sensor (O2S) and 2-pin connector to knock sensor 1 on rear assembly mount.

- Disconnect fuel supply and return lines from fuel rail and unclip from retainers on cylinder head covers.

WARNING! Fire Hazard! When opening fuel system do not smoke or have anything in the area that could ignite fuel or gasoline fumes. Do not use lights with incandescent bulbs. Have approved fire extinguisher within reach.

CAUTION
: To protect against fuel spray cover connections with a cloth.

- Remove vacuum hose between air intake upper part and fuel pressure regulator.

- Remove intake air temperature sensor in intake.manifold upper part.

Vehicles with A/C

- Observe additional information and removal instructions below.

Vehicles with manual transmission

- Remove hydraulic clutch slave cylinder.

- Remove shift cables with support brackets from transmission.





- Attach lifting tackle 2024 A as follows and lift engine/transmission assembly slightly using workshop crane.

Vibration damper end: 4th hole in hook at position 1.
Flywheel end: 4th hole in hook at position 6

CAUTION: Secure hooks and locating pins with locking pins (arrows).

NOTE:
- The positions marked 1 to 4 on the bar must point toward the vibrator end of the engine.
- The holes in the bars are counted from the hook.

Vehicles With Automatic Transmission

- Remove selector lever cable from transmission.





- Attach lifting tackle 2024A with extension 2024A/1 as follows and lift assembly slightly with workshop crane.

Vibration damper end: 1st hole in extension at position 1

Flywheel end: 3rd hole in extension at position 6

CAUTION: Secure hooks and locating pins with locking pins (arrows).

NOTE:
- The positions marked 1 to 4 on the bar must point toward the vibrator end of the engine.
- The holes in the bars are counted from the hook.

All Vehicles

- Release transmission from mounting at left rear and engine at mounting at right rear.





- Release engine at front mounting.

- Lift engine with transmission toward front and out.

CAUTION:
- When lifting assembly, guide the unit carefully to avoid damage to the body.
- For repair work mount assembly in engine fixture 3269.
