Prevention Of Damage To VAG 1551 Diagnostic Tester

Condition
On vehicles where the diagnostic plugs are not correctly wired, a failure could result in the VAG 1551 Diagnostic Tester if an incorrect connecting sequence is employed.
For this reason, the following connection sequence must be followed.
Connecting VAG 1551 with diagnostic cable VAG 1551/1
^ connect black plug of VAG 1551/1 to black socket A
display should be as shown in Figure.
* displayed alternately
If no display is present:
DO NOT connect white or blue plug, voltage supply to VAG 1551 has incorrect polarity or power is interrupted
^ check voltage at black diagnostic socket A in vehicle noting polarity
terminal 1 = Battery negative (-)
terminal 2 = Battery positive (+)
^ check diagnostic cable VAG 1551/1 for continuity
When display is present:
^ connect white and/or blue plug
^ proceed as described in Workshop Manual or Diagnostic Procedure
