Testing Instructions and Requirements
Electrical Testing^ Perform only the recommended test steps listed in the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Tables.
^ Perform all the measures stated in the column "Measures if deviation from specification".
^ Use the hand-held multimeter VAG 1526 for testing.
^ The specified values relate to an ambient temperature from 0° C... 40° C.
^ If the readings obtained differ from the specified values, determine malfunction on the basis of the wiring diagram.
^ If the readings obtained differ only slightly from the specified values, clean sockets and connectors of the testers and test leads and repeat test. Before replacing the particular components, test wiring and connections and, particularly if specified values are below 10 ohms, repeat the resistance measurement on component.
^ Use test box VAG 1598 with adapter lead VAG 1598/9 and auxiliary leads from VAG 1594 for connecting the testers.
^ The contact numbers of the connector and the socket numbers of the test box VAG 1598 are identical.
Caution! Select the appropriate measuring range at the tester before connecting the test leads to avoid damaging the electronic components.
Test Requirements:
^ Battery voltage OK.
^ Fuses 14 and 21 OK.
^ Ground (GND) connections OK:
^ The GND connection point is located on the left next to the relay plate.
^ Check battery GND strap and GND strap between battery and transmission.
^ Switch off ignition for all test steps, unplug multi-pin connector from Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- (the TCM is located below the rear seat on the right) and connect the test box VAG 1598 to connector of wiring harness using adapter VAG 1598/9.
Voltage Measurement:
^ Control module connected to adapter VAG 1598/9
Resistance measurement:
^ Control module disconnected from adapter VAG 1598/9
^ If the readings obtained differ from the specified values, perform Measures if Deviation from Specifications in right-hand part of test table.
