Air Temperature Sensor ( Ambient / Intake ): Description and Operation

Intake Manifold Upper Section:

The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) Sensor is located in the upper section of the intake manifold (# 9 in image).

The intake air temperature sensor is an NTC resistor. The electrical resistance of the sensor decreases as air temperature increases. The engine air temperature signal is used by the Motronic control module for ignition timing, idle speed control and fuel injection quantity.
