Installation



Installing
For the installation follow the removal procedure in reverse order.

Vehicles With Manual Transmission

- Check clutch release bearing for wear replace if necessary.

- Lightly lubricate clutch release bearing, release bearing guide sleeve and splines on input shaft with G 000 100.

All Vehicles

- Check whether the alignment dowels for centering engine and transmission are installed in the engine housing, install if necessary.

- When lowering the engine/transmission assembly be sure that there is clearance between assembly and drive shafts.





- When installing the right rear and front assembly mounts be sure that the recess on the rear console and the recess on the front console line up with the lugs of the bonded rubber mounts (arrows).

- Insert all mounting bolts by hand approx. 5 to 6 turns.

- Align engine and transmission mounts and relieve stress by rocking the assembly.

- First tighten front and rear assembly mounts then tighten rear left assembly mount.

Tightening torque, see below.

Vehicles With Manual Transmission

- Install hydraulic clutch slave cylinder.

- Install shift cables with brackets from transmission, adjust if necessary.

Vehicles With Automatic Transmission

- Install selector cable with support bracket on transmission, adjust if necessary.

Vehicles With A/C

- Install A/C compressor.

All Vehicles

- Install power steering.

- Instal lock carrier.

- Electrical connections and routing see Wiring Diagrams.

- Install air intake hose.

- Install ribbed belt refer to "Ribbed Belt, Removing and Installing". Service and Repair

- Fill engine coolant.

- Adjust throttle cable.

- Check DTC.

- Check idle speed and ignition timing.

- Check headlight adjustment, adjust if necessary.

TIGHTENING TORQUE





Engine/transmission Mounts

NOTE: Tightening torque (threads lubricated)

Front Engine/transmission Mounts





A = 60 Nm (44 ft lb)

B = 60 Nm (44 ft lb)

C = 55 Nm (41 ft lb)

Right Rear Engine/transmission Mount





A = 6O Nm (44 ft lb)

B = 60 Nm (44 ft lb)

C = 25 Nm (18 ft lb)

Left Rear Engine/transmission Mount





A = 60 Nm (44 ft lb)

B = 25 Nm (18 ft lb)

C = 25 Nm (18 ft lb)

Engine And Transmission, Aligning
Aligning is only necessary when the engine and transmission were removed and if the rubber mounts were loosened at the engine/transmission mount and the engine mount.





- Loosen right rear mount -A- at engine and sub-frame (arrows).
- Loosen left rear mount -B- at transmission and sub-frame (arrows).





- Loosen front engine/transmission mount at engine mount and console (arrows).

- Relieve any stress by rocking the engine/transmission assembly in the mounts.

- First tighten front and right rear assembly mounts, then left rear mount.

Tightening torque see above.

For Vehicles With A/C

CAUTION: Do not open A/C refrigerant circuit.

To Make It Possible To Remove And Install The Engine

- Remove refrigerant reservoir and let hang free.

- Remove retaining clamps from refrigerant hoses.

- Remove ribbed belt refer to "Ribbed Belt, Removing and Installing". Service and Repair

- Remove lock carrier with attachments.

- Remove A/C compressor.





- Remove A/C compressor with radiator and condenser and lay aside so that refrigerant hoses (arrows) are not stressed.
