Fuel Filter: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
The Fuel Filter retains particles of dirt and other foreign matter that would adversely affect proper functioning of the injection system.

LOCATION
The Fuel Filter is located under the rear of the vehicle.

CONSTRUCTION
Due to the extremely close tolerances found in several components of the Motronic fuel injection system, it is necessary to use an extremely fine Fuel Filter in order to guarantee faultless performance.

The Fuel Filter contains a paper filter element which is backed up by a strainer. This combination results in a high degree of cleaning being achieved. A supporting plate is used to hold the filter elements in place in the filter housing.

It is of utmost importantance that the direction of flow indicated on the filter housing is complied with. Since the fuel filter is a regular maintenance item it should be replaced at the scheduled maintenance interval.
