Caution:
Before beginning repairs on the electrical system:
- Obtain anti-theft radio security code
- Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap


- Disconnecting the battery may cause the basic setting of the Engine Control Module (ECM) to be erased, causing driveability problems.

- Whenever the battery has been disconnected or replaced during a repair, the Engine Control Module (ECM) "Basic Setting" must be reestablished using the VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST)

1 - Filler cap.
2 - Positive (B+) terminal
- Larger diameter than negative (-) terminal
- Clean off any oxidation
3 - Electrolyte level mark
- If necessary, fill to mark with distilled water
4 - Negative plate
-Color: metallic gray
5 - Separator
-Insulator
6 - Positive plate
- Color: dark brown
7 - Negative (-) terminal
-Smaller diameter than positive (B+) terminal
-Clean off any oxidation
