Positioning in vise
Clamp upper column in soft jaws
Halves must not telescope

Checking column length






Check upper/lower column relative position
Lower column's metal clip must be visible in upper column's bore (arrow). If necessary, firmly pull both halves apart, up to stop
Tighten lower column
