Group: 37Number: 93-08
Date: May 30, 1993
Subject:
Automatic transmission 096, is in limp home mode or does not shift properly
Model(s):
Passat/Corrado
1993 m.y.
Condition
The transmission does not shift properly or is in limp home mode.
The control wiring (flex foil) for the solenoid valves rubs against the holding clips that secure the magnet for metal shavings.
VAG 1551 Scan Tool indicates "Solenoid valve__ N___ open circuit short to ground".
The condition occurs in transmissions numbered between 01 08 2 and 29 03 3.
Production
As of transmission No. 29 03 3 the magnet was relocated by 30 mm.
Service
Verify this condition by performing VAG 1598 Electrical Test, steps 6 to 12. Repeat the test with the harness disconnected from the valve body to determine if the problem is in the harness or the valve body.
^ if harness faulty = repair or replace harness
^ if valve body faulty = replace valve body (also install new oil pan, Part No. 096 321 359B)
Note
Always adjust the manual valve whenever the valve body is replaced. See the Repair Manual microfiche for proper adjustment procedures.
