With Manufacturer's Scan Tool

REQUIREMENTS
- Multi-function indicator and Speedometer 0K.

PRINTING CODES
- The Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) and the blink code will only print out when in the Rapid data transfer mode and then only if the Scan Tool (ST) printer is switched ON. When the printer is switched ON, stored malfunctions are automatically indicated and printed out in sequence.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE MEMORY, ACCESSING
- Connect and start operation of VAG 1551. Refer to Connecting and Operating VAG 1551 Scan Tool, the display will appear as shown:

X DTC's recognized.

- The number of stored DTC's or "No DTC recognized" is indicated on the display.
- Press -> button to select and display the next DTC stored.
- Locate and eliminate any malfunctions recorded. Refer to Diagnostic Charts.

NOTE: Before replacing components coded as faulty, first check the wiring and ground connections to these components using the proper wiring diagram. This is particularly relevant if the malfunction is displayed as being sporadic or "SP".

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE MEMORY, ERASING.

NOTE: If the engine was switched off between reading and erasing the DTC MEMORY, The DTC MEMORY will not erase. You must access and erase without turning off ignition.

- When you have selected the last DTC or if no DTC's have been recognized, Press -> button, display will appear as shown:

Select function XX.

- Press 0 and 5 buttons to select function 05 "Erase DTC memory".
- Press Q button to enter input, display will appear as shown:

Rapid data transfer.
Fault Memory erased.

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE MEMORY, ENDING OUTPUT
- When you have finished a memory output function, i.e. Accessing or Erasing, Press -> button display will appear as shown:

Rapid data transfer HELP.
Select function XX.

- Press 0 and 6 buttons to select function 06 "End output" display will appear as shown:

Rapid data transfer.
06 End output.

- Press Q button to enter input.
- Perform a test drive of at least ten minutes during which:

^ Coolant temperature must exceed 80°C (176°F) for 3 minutes minimum.
^ The accelerator pedal must be completely floored briefly at a speed in excess of 4600 RPM.
^ There must be acceleration at half throttle for approximately. 4 seconds in 4th gear from a speed of roughly 30 mph.

- Read and erase DTC MEMORY again.
^ No faults should be recorded.
