The callouts for exploded view 26-917 appearing on pages 26-3 and 26-4 of the 2.0 liter General, Engine Repair Manual are incorrect and should not be referenced.

The Exhaust System information on the following two pages contains the correct callouts.

This information has been formatted for the Golf III/GTI/Jetta III 2.0 liter General Engine Repair Manual and will be integrated at the time of the next printing.

Muffler assembly, mounting and hanging

Note
The exhaust system must be aligned lengthwise according to dimensions 7 and 11.

Exhaust System:

1 - 40 Nm (3O ft lb)
2 - Locking clamp
3 - Intermediate pipe
4 - Bracket
5 - 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
6 - Front and rear muffler
^ available as separate replacement parts
- cut the connecting pipe at a right angle at point 10
- connect the front and rear muffler with a double clamp
- slide the double clamp flush with mark 8
7 - Dimension c
^ c = approx. 10 mm (1/4 in.)
8 - Marking for double clamp (to be used when replacing one of the
mufflers)
^ marked three times on the pipe circumference
9 - Cutting point
10 - Dimension b
^ b = approx. 5 mm (3/32 in.)
11 - Marking
^ marked three times on the pipe circumference
12 - Retaining ring
13 - Bracket
14 - 20 Nm (15 ft lb)
15 - Bracket
