When replacing a speedometer, Federal and/or Provincial regulations require that the odometer of the replacement unit be set to the actual mileage of the vehicle or at zero kilometers. (see further explanation below).
Federal / Provincial regulations:
Federal / Provincial regulations allow the replacement speedometer (odometer) to be set to the true vehicle mileage or to zero kilometers. If set to zero kilometers, Federal / Provincial regulations requires that a label be affixed to the left B-pillar (near the Safety Certification Label) of the vehicle specifying:
^ Vehicle mileage before the speedometer (odometer) replacement
^ Date of the speedometer (odometer) replacement
^ Dealer or service repair shop which replaced or repaired the speedometer (odometer) unit.
Note:
Canadian Federal regulations prohibit tampering with odometer mileage in any way.
Service
A speedometer (odometer) replacement label is included with replacement speedometers.
1. - Fill out the label completely and affix to the left B-pillar (near the Safety Certification Label).
2. - Fill out the speedometer replacement section of the vehicle Maintenance book completely (including Dealer Stamp) for warranty record purposes.
If a label is not included with the replacement speedometer, order labels through your Parts Depot using Part No. W55SPEEDOCDN.
