Component Removal & Installation

Fig. 1 Stereo radio, removing/installing

Note
Obtain radio security code before removing radio.

Removing

- obtain radio security and disconnect battery ground strap

- insert radio removal clips VW 160 into radio as shown

- spread clips outwards (arrows) and pull until radio slides from instrument panel

- remove connectors and antenna cable and remove radio

Installing

- remove clips VW 160 from radio

- install all radio connectors

- install antenna cable and secure to radio, see Fig. 2

- carefully slide radio into instrument cluster being careful not to pinch or
damage any wires

^ rubber bushing on rear of radio must contact top and radio must lock into
place

- install cable guide over stud on back of stereo radio

- install rubber bushing

- attach antenna cable to radio and clip cable into guide

- reach under cassette storage box and pull out in direction of arrow

- remove connector

- install in reverse order of removal

- remove cassette storage box, see Fig. 3

- carefully pry off cover at (arrows)

- remove light bulb

- install in reverse order of removal

Removing

- using a screwdriver, carefully pry up speaker cover at (arrows)

- carefully pry out tweeter mounting base

- remove connector

Installing

- install in reverse order of removal noting installation marks on speaker

Removing

- using a screwdriver, carefully pry up speaker cover at (arrows)

- carefully pry out tweeter mounting base

- remove connector

Installing

- install in reverse order of removal noting installation marks on speaker

Removing

- using a screwdriver, carefully pry off speaker cover

- remove four screws from speaker and pull speaker from side panel

- remove connector

Installing

- install in reverse order of removal noting installation marks on speaker

- install speaker cover corresponding to the curvature of the side panel trim

Removing

- using a screwdriver, carefully pry out speaker -1-

- remove connector

Installing

- install in reverse order of removal noting the following

- ensure clip -2- is positioned properly

- install speaker so tab (arrow) fits into clip -2-

Removing

- using a screwdriver, carefully pry off speaker cover

- remove four screws from speaker and pull speaker from door panel

- remove connector

Installing

- install in reverse order of removal noting installation marks on speaker

- before installing speaker cover, ensure tab (arrow) is properly positioned

2 - Tweeter

- carefully remove door release lever trim (with tweeter)

- remove connector

- install in reverse order of removal

Removing

- using a screwdriver, carefully pry off speaker 9over

- remove four screws from speaker and pull speaker from door panel

- remove connector

Installing

- install in reverse order of removal noting installation marks on speaker

- install speaker cover with installation mark (arrow) at bottom
