Condition
Customer complaints of engine missing, and/or poor performance can be caused by:
^ Faulty coil wire insulation, improper crimping of coil wire connectors or, improper coil wire routing.
When this condition occurs the following may be observed:
^ Coil wire arcs from connector to coil.
^ Coil wire arcs from wire to heater hose.
Service
If diagnosis indicates the coil wire is faulty:
- Replace wire and route as shown in illustration 28A-065.
^ Vehicles built prior to VIN: SM 070 001 were equipped with a coil wire manufactured using a straight connector at the ignition coil.
- Replace these coil wires with

^ Vehicles built from VIN: SM 070 001 should be equipped with a coil wire manufactured with a 900 connector and a bracket at the ignition coil.
If replacement is required:
^ Use only the new style coil wire and bracket.
^ Route coil wire routing as shown in illustration 28A-065.
