UD Work Procedure

Special measuring tool required: VWM 047203

SECTION A - Brake Line Check

- Raise vehicle on hoist; wheels must hang free

- Check right rear brake line for wear (area shown by black arrow)

- If wear marks are visible, go to Section B, otherwise proceed to next step

- Check the distance between the right rear brake line and the rear axle using gauge VWM 047203; insert gauge with flat side against axle and round side measuring the distance at the bottom of the large radius

- If the distance is greater than the gauge size (brake line can rub against fuel tank) adjust the brake line position (move toward axle) to the required gauge size distance

- If the distance is less than the gauge size (gauge does not fit), no adjustment is needed

- Remove tool

- Remove vehicle from hoist - No further work is required

SECTION B - Brake Line Installation

- Remove right rear brake line from the front of rear axle to wheel cylinder on drum brakes, or to hose from caliper on disc brakes and discard

HINT:
Right rear wheel may be removed for easier brake line removal

Warning!
Brake fluid is poisonous

CAUTION!
Brake fluid must not come in contact with painted parts.

- Install new right rear brake line (1HO 611 764 C for drum brakes or 357 611 764 B for disc brakes) and torque brake line fittings to 14 to 16 Nm (10 to 12 ft. lb.)

- Check for correct position of new brake line with VWM 047203 gauge and adjust, if necessary

- Connect pressure bleeder US 1116, filled with VW brake fluid (B 000 700 A1), to the fluid reservoir

Note:
On non-ABS vehicles, the rear brake pressure regulator lever must be pressed and held during any rear brake bleeding process.

- Connect hose from bleeder bottle to calipers or wheel cylinder and bleed brakes in the following sequence:

1. Right-rear caliper or wheel cylinder

2. Left-rear caliper or wheel cylinder

3. Right4ront caliper

4. Left-front caliper

- Remove pressure bleeder from the vehicle, then remove vehicle from the hoist

- Check for correct brake fluid level

- Start engine and test brakes for correct operation

DISPOSAL

All removed parts and brake fluid must be discarded properly.
