Test Procedures

REQUIREMENTS

- LED Test Light VAG 1527B or Equivalent.

- Digital Volt/Ohm Meter (DVOM).

- Test Connector kit VW 1594 or Equivalent.

- Refer to Tools and Equipment for test equipment specifications

- Oil temperature between 15°C and 85°C.

TEST PROCEDURE

- Remove relay from socket

- Set DVOM to Voltage range.

- Test for voltage at terminals 2 and 6 of the relay socket.

- Must get approx battery voltage.

If not. Check wiring using wiring diagram. Repair as necessary.

- Connect LED tester to terminals 4 and 6.

- Start Engine and let Idle.

- LED will light for approx 5 seconds after engine has idled approx 20 seconds.

If not. Check wiring using wiring diagram or Refer toVAG 1598 Pin Out Box/ Electrical Checks step 33, repair as necessary.

If wiring is "OK" and LED still does not Light replace ECM.

- Reinstall relay and srart engine and let idle.

- After approx. 20. seconds the Air Injection pump must run for approx. 5 seconds.

If not check for power to Air Pump fuse mounted next to the relay.

If fuse has no power replace relay.
