Selecting Head Gasket

PISTON PROTRUSION

- Piston protrusion above TDC must be measured whenever new pistons, rods or a short block is installed.
- Depending upon the piston protrusion above TDC, install the correct gasket using the following table:

^ Piston protrusion: 0.66 mm to 0.86 mm
Use gasket with: 1 Holes/notches

^ Piston protrusion: 0.87 mm to 0.90 mm
Use gasket with: 2 Holes/notches

^ Piston protrusion: 0.91 mm to 1.02 mm
Use gasket with: 3 Holes/notches

- Cylinder head gasket identification:

- Part number = black arrow
- Holes/notches = white arrow

NOTE: If differing results are obtained when measuring piston protrusion, use the largest measurement to select the correct gasket.
