Timing Belt: Testing and Inspection
BELT CONDITIONCheck for:
- Tears, cross-section fractures.
- Separation of layers (toothed timing belt body, tensile cords).
- Bursting on toothed timing belt body.
- Fraying of tensile cords surface cracks (plastic surface).
- Traces of oil or grease.
If faults are found, the toothed timing belt must be replaced.
BELT TENSION
1. Remove upper belt cover.
2. Use tester tool No. VW 210, or equivalent, to measure toothed timing belt tension between camshaft sprocket and injection pump gear.
^ Specification: Scale reading = 12-13.
3. If the actual value is not to specification, tension the toothed timing belt, refer to Adjustment.
