Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Testing and Inspection
Fuel System, Leak Checking
CAUTION! Fire hazard. Do NOT smoke or have anything in the area that can ignite Diesel fuel!
- Run engine at idle and blip the throttle several times to remove any air which may be in the system.
- Disconnect the fuel return line from the injection pump.
- Attach an adaptor line to the injection pump in place of the fuel return line.
- Clamp the fuel supply line at the fuel tank with a hose clamp.
- Build-up a pressure of 1.0 to 1.5 bar using the US 8026 hand pump.
It may require several efforts due to air trapped in the system.
- If the pressure drops continuously, locate the point of leakage and eliminate the cause.
NOTES:
- The leak can be localized by repositioning the hose clamp to the front of the fuel filter.
- The return line can be pressurized by connecting the adapter to the injector supply line. Then the return and supply lines at the fuel tank as well as the supply line at the fuel filter outlet must be disconnected.
