Timing Components: Testing and Inspection
VALVE TIMING, CHECKING
- Set crankshaft to TDC No.1 cylinder marks by turning crankshaft at bolt for vibration damper in direction of engine rotation.
Vehicles With Manual Transmission And Engine Installed
- Mark on pressure plate (triangular tooth) must align with reference point on clutch housing.
Vehicles With Manual Transmission And Engine Removed
- The TDC mark on the flywheel (arrow) must align with the reference point on flange (arrow).
Vehicles With Automatic Transmission And Engine Installed
NOTE: The torque converter has 3 TDC markings for cylinder No.1 (arrow) as the hole pattern for the torque converter allows it to be installed in three different positions. It is very important to check whether piston No 1 is in the TDC position by looking into the spark plug hole; If not, turn the crankshaft in direction of engine rotation by 120° or by 240°.
Vehicles With Automatic Transmission And Engine Removed
- The TDC mark on the drive plate (arrow) must align with the reference point on flange (arrow).
All Vehicles
- Remove cylinder head cover refer to "Cylinder Head Cover, Removing and Installing". Service and Repair
- Camshaft fixture 3268 must fit into both camshaft cut-outs.
NOTE: This can Only be done in every 2nd. TDC position.
