Throttle Position Sensor, Checking

NOTE: On vehicles with automatic transmission, the Transmission Control Module (TCM) (J217) and the Throttle Position (TP) Sensor (G69) must be matched to one another after any of the following work has been completed:

^ Replacement of Transmission Control Module
^ Removal and installation, or replacement of Throttle Position Sensor
^ Replacement of throttle valve housing

CHECKING THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR
- Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) and enter address word 01 for "Engine Electronics" (select functions with ignition switched ON).

^ Indicated on display:

Rapid data transfer HELP
Select function XX

- Press buttons -0- and -8- to select the "Read Measuring Value Block" function.
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.

^ Indicated on display:

Read measuring value block HELP
Input display group number XX

- Press buttons -0- and -3- to enter display group 03.
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.

^ Indicated on display (1 - 4 = display fields)

NOTE: If something different is indicated on the display, check the VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) operating instructions.

- Read values in display field 3.
- Check throttle valve angle on idle speed stop.

^ Specification: 9-19 angle °

- Slowly open throttle valve to Wide Open Throttle. Value must increase evenly over complete range of travel.
- Check throttle valve angle at Wide Open Throttle stop.

^ Specification: 90-101 angle °

- Press --> button.
- Press buttons -0- and -6- to select the "End Output" function.
- Press -Q- button to confirm input.
- If the specified values are not obtained, or do not increase evenly as specified:

- Carry out electrical testing, test step 22.
- If necessary, replace Throttle Position Sensor.
