Checking Cruise Control
Required Tools for Troubleshooting:^ Scan Tool (ST) VAG 1551 with Diagnostic cable VAG 1551/3
^ Multimeter Fluke 83 (US 1119)
^ Test box VAG 1598/18
^ Connector test Kit VW 1594
^ Valid wiring diagram
Test Conditions:
^ Battery voltage OK
^ Fuse No. 14 (15A) and No. 22 (15A) OK
^ Ground connections on engine and transmission OK
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC), Interrogating
- Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) and select engine electronics (address word 01).
- Interrogate Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) memory (function 02).
- Possible cruise control system malfunctions are listed in the fault table.

NOTE:
- The DTC table is arranged according to the digit DTC codes located in the first column.
- Before replacing the components indicated as faulty, check the wiring and connectors to these components and the ground connections using the current flow diagram. This is particularly important when faults are output as "occurring sporadically" (SP).

Test Conditions:
^ Battery voltage OK
^ Fuse No. 14 (15A) and No.22 (15A) OK
^ Location of pedal switches for cruise control OK
^ Diesel direct fuel injection (DFI) engine control module (ECM) OK
^ Fault memory interrogated and OK
Activate Cruise Control
Test Conditions:
^ Battery voltage OK
^ Fuse No.14 (15A) and No.22 (15 A), OK
^ Location of pedal switches for cruise control OK
^ Diesel direct fuel injection (DFI) engine control module (ECM) OK
^ Fault memory interrogated and OK
^ Cruise control switch checked and OK
Troubleshooting - Activate Cruise Control:
Encoding Diesel Direct Fuel Injection
- Connect VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) and select engine electronics (address word 01).
- After encoding the diesel direct fuel injection (DFI) engine control module (J248), conduct test drive to check the operation of the cruise control.
