Evaporator Case: Service and Repair


Evaporator Housing, Assembly





CAUTION: Part numbers are for reference only. Always check with your Parts Department for latest parts information.

To remove evaporator housing for disassembly:
- Discharge A/C refrigerant system. Service and Repair

- Drain engine coolant.

- Remove instrument panel and support bracket. Service and Repair

- Remove heater box/evaporator housing.

Note: Remove heater box/evaporator housing before replacing any parts marked with an *.

1* - Upper evaporator housing
- seal grooves and contact surfaces with silicone rubber sealant Part No. AKD 476 5 05 or equivalent
2 - Fresh air blower series resistance with fuse (N24)
3* - Seal
- must be water tight
4* - Air intake ring
5* - Fresh air/recirculation flap vacuum servo
6* - Fresh air/recirculation flap
7 - Fresh air blower (V 2)
8* - Lower evaporator housing
- seal grooves and contact surfaces with silicone rubber sealant Part No. AKD 476 KD5 05 or equivalent
9 - A/C evaporator temperature. switch (E 33)
- prevents evaporator from freezing
- switches A/C clutch off at 34°F ± 2°F (1°C ± 1°C)
- insert sensing tube of temperature switch into evaporator 330 mm (13.0 in.)
- replaceable only with cover and insulation
10 - Cover
11 - Retaining strap
12 - Cover
13 - Evaporator water drain valve
14 - Seal
- must be water tight
15* - Heater (air distribution) box
- flaps cannot be replaced individually
16* - Heater core
- if heater core is replaced, drain entire cooling system and add new coolant
17* - Evaporator
- install with evaporator temperature switch (E 33) guide, see Fig. 1
