Note:
- If water drops from vent -13-, check the water drain valve for obstructions.
- The level of refrigerant cannot be read off in the sight glass because the mixture of refrigerant 134a and refrigerant oil causes foaming.
Test condition:
- Condenser and radiator must be clean. If not, clean with compressed air.
- Air shrouds for condenser and radiator must not be obstructed.
- Do not park car in direct sunlight when measuring and checking.
- Fresh air fan works in all four stages.
- Adjust engine speed to 2000 rpm.
Test procedure:
- Open instrument panel vent -13-.
- Press button -4- for A/C Switch (E35).
- Press button -6- for Fresh Air/Recirculating Flap Switch (E159).
- Set control knobs as shown in illustration.
- Check components and functions according to the following:
7 - Temperature flap
- Temperature flap -7- must be heard to fall into position when the control knob (center) is turned back and forth from its end position "cold". If not, the air flow over the heat exchanger is blocked.
- Adjust temperature flap cable -7-.
3 - Footwell/defrost flap
- No air flow to foot well and windshield vents.
- Adjust cables.
- Check pinion on regulator, replace regulator if necessary.
14 - Center flap
- No air flow to windshield vents -2-
- No air to foot well vent -1-
- Adjust cables.
- Check pinion of regulator. Replace regulator if necessary.
8 - Fresh air and recirculating air flap
- Fresh air intake -9- is blocked (system operates in recirculation mode).
- Vacuum unit -10- has pulled in.
- Check vacuum hoses as per vacuum hose connection diagram Vacuum and Vapor Hose Diagrams
- Check Fresh Air/Recirculating Flap Two-Way Valve (N63) using wiring diagram.
- Check Fresh Air/Recirculating Flap Switch (E159) button -6- using wiring diagram.
