Service
- Follow 1551 Diagnostic Scan Tool connection and DTC memory check as described in the Fuel Injection and Ignition Repair Manual.
If DTC 00515 (2113) (G40) exists, perform the following:
- Check engine timing as described on pages 28-8 through 28-12 of the Fuel Injection and Ignition Repair Manual.
Note:
The following steps must be performed in order.
The flywheel TDC must be used as the first reference point of the timing procedure and must always remain on the mark
Vehicles with manual transmission:
- Remove transmission flywheel plug.
- Align flywheel timing mark ( 0 ) to cylinder 1 TDC as shown in -A- (Illust. 13-1232).
Vehicles with automatic transmission:
- Align flywheel timing mark ( 0 ) to cylinder 1 TDC as shown in -B- (Illust. 13-1232).
- Inspect the front vibration damper pulley TDC notch. The notch must be aligned with the arrow on plastic timing belt cover as shown.
Note:
It is critical that both the front vibration damper TDC notch and the flywheel timing mark be aligned at this point!
If both timing marks (damper and flywheel) are not aligned:
- Remove and inspect the crankshaft spur belt drive sprocket.
If the drive sprocket is damaged:
- Replace the drive sprocket and spur belt.
- Set all engine timing marks as described on pages 28-8 through 28-12 of the Fuel Injection and Ignition Repair Manual.
If both timing marks (damper and flywheel) are aligned:
- Inspect the camshaft drive sprocket timing marks.
The marking on the camshaft drive belt sprocket must line up with the marking on the toothed belt cover as shown.
- Remove Distributor cap and check that the center line of the distributor rotor lines up with the mark on the distributor housing as shown.
Note:
At this point all timing marks must be aligned.
If the camshaft sprocket or distributor rotor does not line up:
- Set all engine timing marks as described on pages 28-8 through 28-12 of the Fuel Injection and Ignition Repair Manual.
If all timing marks line up:
- Continue with Camshaft Position sensor, checking procedures as described on page 28-13 of the Fuel Injection and Ignition Repair Manual.
