Condition
1995 Models beginning with VIN 1H_SM013734 incorporate a new microprocessor that increases fuel gauge accuracy.
However, if refueling occurs while the ignition switch is on the fuel gauge will not show the correct fuel level.
This new system improves fuel gauge accuracy and minimizes fuel gauge needle movement during up-hill and down-hill driving, as well as when driving through curves by comparing the momentary actual fuel level with the mean value stored in the memory of the microprocessor unit.
The fuel level indicator needle position (by design), will change at a rate of 34 fl oz.(1 liter) every 90 seconds to compensate for any fuel level change due to driving conditions. For example, refueling an empty tank with a capacity of 14.5 gallons (55 liters) (with ignition on) would take approximately 1.4 hours until the correct fuel level indicator reading is reached. This condition is normal due to the working principle of the system. The measuring process is only interrupted when the ignition is switched off.
Service
- Always switch Ignition off before refueling the vehicle.
Note
Please inform your customers and sales colleagues of this condition and the necessity of refueling only with the ignition turned off.
