M/T - Hard to Shift Into Reverse/Can't Select Reverse

Technical Background
May be caused by an incorrectly dimensioned slot on the selector shaft (with reverse gear brake) on transmissions produced between 07075 and 01017.

If condition exists on a vehicle equipped with a transmission built within range listed:
Tip: Procedure can be done with transmission installed in vehicle.- Remove clutch cable.
- Remove Selector lever -1-.
- Remove selector shaft lock bolt -2-.
- Remove selector shaft cover -3- (use Tool US4463 or equivalent).
- Remove selector shaft -1-.
- Measure length of selector shaft slot -A-.
If length of slot is 40 mm:
- Replace selector shaft with Part No: 02K301235D (slot length = 38mm)
- Install selector shaft, spring and cover.
Tightening torque: 50 Nm (47 ft lb)
Tip: If selector shaft cover was sealed with a seal ring -2-, it should also be replaced with Part No.: N90354301
- Install new selector shaft locking bolt -2- Part No: 020301241H with sealant AMV 18820003 or equivalent
Tightening torque: 40 Nm (30 ft lb)
- Reinstall Selector lever -1- using NEW nut.
Tightening torque: 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
- Reinstall clutch cable.
