Checking Cruise Control

Use for Troubleshooting:
^ Test system VAG 1466
^ Connector test kit VW 1594

Test Conditions:
^ Vacuum system for cruise control OK.
^ Fuse no. 14 (10A) for vehicles with manual transmission OK.
^ Fuse no. 51 (5A) for vehicles with automatic transmission OK.
^ Left brake light M9 OK.

Preparation for Troubleshooting
- Switch OFF ignition.
- Remove 12-pin connector at cruise control, control module J213 behind center console.
- Insert test adapter VAG 1466/8 into 12-pin connector.
- Connect VAG 1466 to test adapter and then insert to steering.

NOTE: In vehicles with automatic transmission cruise control, control module J 213 is supplied with power if the speed exceeds 18 mph. These vehicles needs an additional power source for troubleshooting as follows:

- Separate single connector, which comes from S51 (5A), behind fuse/relay panel (see wiring diagram).
- Remove dual horn relay J4 (production control number 53) from relay location 11.
- Connect additional wire from connector test kit VW1594 with the separated black wire, above fuse/relay panel and contact 1 from location 11 (terminal 15).

Troubleshooting Procedure:
- Perform test steps according to table.
- If specified value/test result is obtained, proceed to next step (test result OK).
- If specified value/test result is not obtained, use table for troubleshooting and repair.
- Use valid wiring diagram for wire testing.
- Disconnect test leads after each step.

NOTE:
- If malfunction has not been eliminated after performing steps 1 to 9, replace cruise control, control module J213.
- After repairing malfunction, perform functional test of cruise control.
