Removal

CAUTION: On vehicles equipped with an anti-theft radio, make sure you know the correct radio activation code before disconnecting the battery.

1. Disconnect the battery ground strap and remove the battery.
2. Remove upper section of Air Cleaner (ACL) Housing.
3. Remove radiator cover.

Engine Mount Bolt:




4. Remove bolt (arrow) from right side bracket/engine mount.
5. Remove bracket "A" for harness connector, if applicable.
6. Disconnect ground (GND) strap from engine/transmission upper mount, if installed.

Connection For Speed Sensor And Back Up Light Switch:




7. Disconnect the harness connectors from the Speedometer Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) (arrow 1) and the Back-Up Light Switch (arrow 2).
8. Disconnect all other electrical connections and ground cables from transmission and from engine/transmission mounting bolts.

Selector Cables:




9. Remove balance weight "A" and disconnect gear selector cable "B" from the gear selector lever.
10. Disconnect gate selector cable "C" from actuating arm/relay lever by pulling lug in direction of the arrow.
11. Unclip clutch slave cylinder hose at cable support bracket.

Selector Cable:




12. Remove cable bracket bolts (arrows) at transmission.

Clutch Slave Cylinder:




13. Remove clutch slave cylinder and lay to one side. Secure with wire.

CAUTION: Do not disconnect brake line or open clutch hydraulic system. Do not depress the clutch pedal.

14. Remove engine/transmission upper attachment bolts.
15. Remove cooling system expansion tank and lay to one side.

Transmission Bracket/Mount:




16. Remove transmission hex bolt "C" from left transmission mount "D".
17. If installed, disconnect electrical connector mounting plate from front bracket.

Engine Mount Bolt:




18. Remove bolts "1" for bracket and "2" for mount.

Engine Support Tool:




19. Mount engine support bridge 10-222A and adapter.

CAUTION: Before installing the adapter hooks, disconnect all hoses and wiring in the vicinity of the engine lifting eyes, to prevent damage.

20. Tighten the support bridge assembly and take up weight of engine/transmission assembly via spindles.
21. Remove lower belt guard for poly-ribbed belt.
22. Remove sound insulation pan below engine/transmission assembly.
23. Remove the starter.

NOTE: Before removing the lower starter mounting bolt, first disconnect the power steering hose retainer from the transmission.

24. Remove front bracket.

Balance Weight:




25. Remove balance weight "A" from subframe.
26. Disconnect exhaust system in front of Three Way Catalytic Converter (TWC).
27. Disconnect axle shafts from axle flanges, turn steering to full-left lock and tie axle shafts aside as high as possible.

CAUTION: Do not damage axle shaft surface protection.

28. Push engine/transmission assembly as far to the right as possible.

Transmission Mount:




29. Remove transmission bracket "A" from transmission.
30. Using both engine support adapter spindles, lift engine/transmission assembly until the exhaust system just contacts the heat shield.

CAUTION: Make sure that the selector cable support bracket is not jammed.

31. Remove transmission bracket mounting bolt "B".

Transmission Jack:




32. Press engine/transmission assembly rearward toward bulkhead over lug "A".

CAUTION: Do not damage power steering hose.

33. Remove transmission bracket mounting bolt "B" from below support.
34. Using both engine support adapter spindles, lower engine/transmission assembly back to previous position, then incline engine using left spindle.
35. Remove clutch cover plate.
36. Remove engine/transmission mounting bolts above right side axle flange.
37. Assemble transmission jack with transmission support 3282 and 02A transmission adjustment plate 3282/8 with support elements.

Adjustment Plate:




38. Place adjustment plate 3282/8 on transmission support 3282.

NOTE: Adjustment plate fits in one position only.

39. Align arms of transmission support with holes in adjustment plate.
40. Bolt on support elements "A" according to diagram on adjustment plate.

Transmission Adjustment Plate And Jack:




41. Place transmission jack under vehicle. Arrow symbol "B" points toward the front of the vehicle.
42. Align adjustment plate parallel to transmission and lock safety supports on transmission.
43. Remove lower engine/transmission mounting bolt.
44. Press transmission off alignment dowel sleeves.

NOTE: Transmission cover must make light contact with left side longitudinal member.

Engine Support:




45. Press engine forward using engine support 3300 until it just touches the engine subframe.
46. Lower transmission, constantly adjusting position using spindles on transmission jack.

CAUTION: While lowering transmission, do not damage power steering lines.

Transmission Lifting Tool:




47. Attach transmission lifting device 3336 to clutch housing.
48. Set support arm on sliding piece with locking pin (arrow). Number of holes visible should be 5.

Transmission Tool:




49. Take out transmission with workshop crane and transmission lifting device 3336.
50. Place transmission where necessary for repairs or transport.
