Throttle Position (TP) Actuator, checking

Checking operation

To check operation refer to "Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM)" [1][2][3]Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM) (Function 03)

Checking activation

^ VAG 1551 Scan Tool (ST) connected with function 03 ("Output Diagnostic Test Mode") selected Connecting VAG 1551 Scan Tool
^ Ignition switched OFF

- Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) Actuator (V60).

- Connect US 1115 LED Tester to harness connector terminals -1 - and -2- using adapter cable from VW 1594 adapter kit.

- Bridge harness connector terminals -3- and -4- using test leads from VW 1594 adapter kit.

- Switch ignition ON.

- Test with VAG 1551 (Output Diagnostic Test Mode) until Throttle Position (TP) Actuator (V60) is triggered.

- Slightly open throttle valve and close again.

^ LED must light up alternately

Note: If the throttle valve opens too wide, disconnect test leads on terminals -3- and -4-, reconnect them, and repeat the test.

- Complete the Output Diagnostic Test Mode (DTM).

- Switch ignition OFF.

- Disconnect test leads, and reconnect harness connector for Throttle Position (TP) Actuator.

- Check and erase DTC Memory Testing and Inspection

If LED does not light up:
- Perform electrical testing Pinout Values and Diagnostic Parameters

Resistance, checking

- Disconnect Throttle Position (TP) Actuator (V60).

- Measure resistance at terminals using Fluke 83 multimeter and jumper wires from VW 1594 adapter kit.

Resistance between terminals -1- and -2-:
^ 3-200 Ohms

Resistance between terminals -3- and -4-:
^ Throttle valve closed max. 200 Ohms
^ Throttle valve open Ohms

If resistance between terminals -3- and -4- is NOT OK:
- Check Closed Throttle Position (CTP) Switch (F60) Testing and Inspection
