Installation

Engine installation is the reverse of the removal procedures, noting the following:

1. Check clutch release bearing for wear, replace if necessary
2. On models with manual transaxle, lightly grease clutch release bearing, release bearing guide sleeve and splines on input shaft using G 000 100, or equivalent, grease.
3. On all models, check whether the alignment dowels for centering the engine/transmission are installed in the cylinder block, install if necessary.
4. When lowering the power train assembly, ensure that there is sufficient clearance between the power train and drive shafts.





5. When installing the engine mounts, ensure that the recess on the front and rear console locates on the motor mount lugs (arrows).
6. Align engine mountings stress-free by rocking power train
7. On models with manual transaxle, install hydraulic clutch slave cylinder.
8. Install selector mechanism.
9. On all models, install power steering pump, reservoir and hydraulic lines.
10. Install lock carrier with attachments.
11. On models with A/C, install compressor.
12. On engines with ribbed belt WITHOUT tensioner, install ribbed belt, fill engine with coolant, check headlight alignment and adjust if necessary, adjust shift cables if necessary.
13. On all models, tighten components as follows:

- Engine to transmission:
^ 10 mm bolts: 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
^ 12 mm bolts: 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).

- Drive shafts to flanged shafts: 45 Nm (33 ft. lbs.).
- Front exhaust pipe to turbocharger: 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).
- Engine mount to body: 80 Nm (59 ft. lbs.).
