Diesel Injection Pump General Information
The diesel injection pump for the AAZ engine is equipped with boost pressure enrichment (BPE) as well as load-dependent injection timing.
Load-dependent injection timing function is integrated with the injection pump. It adjusts the starting point of fuel injection based on engine load. This adjustment helps achieve smoother running. It is switched off at engine speeds above approx. 2800 RPM.
Load-dependent injection timing is switched off by activation of the Injection Start Positioner (N165) -1- on the injection pump, which is activated by the Automatic Glow Time Control Module -J179-.
Switching-off function, checking
- Disconnect voltage supply from Injection Start Positioner -N165-.
- Connect VAG 1527B voltage tester to open connector.
- Start engine and raise engine speed to approx. 3000 RPM.
- Tester LED must light up
If NOT:
- Locate and repair wiring faults using wiring diagram.
- Replace Automatic Glow Time Control Module -J179- if necessary.
Injection Start Positioner -N165-, checking
- Remove injection Start Positioner -N165-.
- Hold so positioner makes connection to Ground (GND), and connect voltage supply.
- Injection Start Positioner -N165- must operate.
