Ribbed belt removing and installing

Belt drive without tensioner






Note:


- Before removing the ribbed belt, mark its running direction so that it can be reinstalled the same way.
- when installing, be sure belt is correctly seated in pulleys


Removing


- Loosen Generator (GEN) mounting bolts -1- and -2- at least 1 turn.
- Press down Generator with lever 3297 and remove ribbed belt from Generator pulley.
- Remove V-belt for power steering pump.
- Remove ribbed belt.


Installing


- Place ribbed belt on crankshaft vibration damper/pulley and on coolant pump pulley.
- Install V-belt for power steering pump.







- With lever 3297, push Generator down to stop at least 3 times to ensure ease of movement.


Note:

If the engine has not yet been installed in the vehicle, stop here and continue the installation procedure after the engine is installed.


- With lever 3297, push Generator down and place ribbed belt on pulley.
- While Generator is still loose, let engine idle for at least 10 seconds.


Note:
Follow tightening sequence when tightening Generator mounting bolts. Do not lean on Generator and do not touch ribbed belt.

Tightening sequence:

- Tighten mounting bolt -2-to 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
- Tighten mounting bolt -1- to 25 Nm (18 ft lb)
