With Manufacturer's Scan Tool

Check DTC Memory (scan tool function 02)

Special tools, testers and auxiliary items:

VAG1551 Scan Tool with VAG1551/3 adaptor cable

NOTE: The VAG1552 Scan Tool can be used instead of the VAG1551, but printouts are only possible with the VAG1551; VAG1552 doesn't have an on-board printer.

Connect VAG1551 or VAG1552 scan tool
- Start engine and let idle
- Press -0- and -1- buttons to select the "engine electronics" address word 01

If engine cannot be started:
- Switch ON ignition

To continue:
- Press "PRINT" button to switch on scan tool printer
- "PRINT" button must light up
Display will appear as shown:

- Operate scan tool according to directions on display
- Press -0- and -2- buttons to select "Check DTC Memory Function 02
- Press Q button to confirm input
Display will appear as shown:

X DTCs recognized


or

No DTCs recognized


The number of DTCs stored or "No DTC recognized" will be shown on the display.

If one or more DTCs are stored, they will be displayed and printed out one after the other.

After stored DTCs have been displayed or printed out, scan tool display will appear as shown:

NOTE: The scan tool is required for additional DTC checks, so leave the engine running and the scan tool connected.

- Eliminate malfunctions related to each DTC, as specified by DTC table. Testing and Inspection
- Afterwards, erase DTC memory. Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
- Create readiness code Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes
- Display readiness code Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

If DTC memory has been erased:
- Create readiness code again Monitors, Trips, Drive Cycles and Readiness Codes

If no DTC is stored:
- Press the -> button
