Trouble Codes - Important Information

DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE CHARTS

^ All the possible malfunctions which are recognized by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) -J217- and displayed on the VAG 1551 with the printer switched on when the Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) Memory is checked, are listed below, grouped according to the DTC number.

^ If malfunctions occur only occasionally or if the DTC Memory was not erased after correcting the malfunctions, these malfunctions will be displayed as "sporadic malfunctions" for a stipulated period of time.

^ If components are indicated as being faulty during DTC Memory checking, also test wiring to the components for short and open circuits according to wiring diagram.

^ The DTC is printed out in the "rapid data transfer" mode only when the printer of VAG 1551 is switched on.

^ When text in the "Corrective Steps" section of DTC chart refers to "Read measured value block", this is refering to normal scan data values. The procedure for reading these values is located in Normal Scan Data Values section.

^ When text in the "Corrective Steps" section of DTC chart refers to "Perform electrical tests", this is refering to the electrical tests located in Eectrical Testing (TCM Pinout Charts) section.

^ The TCM should NOT be replaced, or the system be restored to the basic setting until the possible cause of the malfunction has been determined, and the following malfunctions have been corrected:

^ Mechanical malfunctions
^ Hydraulic malfunctions
^ All affected electrical / electronic components and wiring connections.
