Engine: Service Precautions

VALVE PISTON CONTACT
- Use care when turning crankshaft or camshaft while toothed timing belt is loose or disconnected.
- Piston valve contact is possible and may cause internal engine damage.
- After installing new lifter(s) or cylinder head the engine MUST NOT be started for approx. 30 minutes.
- Hydraulic build up in the lifters MUST subside, otherwise the valves will strike the pistons.

FASTENERS
- Do not re-use any fasteners that are worn or deformed in normal use.
- Some fasteners are designed to be used only once, and are unreliable and may fail if used a second time. This includes, but is not limited to, nuts, bolts, washers, circlips and coffer pins.
- Always follow the recommendations in this information, replace these fasteners with new parts where indicated, and any other time it is deemed necessary by inspection.

RADIO ANTI-THEFT
- On vehicles equipped with an anti-theft radio, make sure you know the correct radio activation code before disconnecting the battery.
